Guidelines for Preparing Patients for Transport
Life Air, Inc would like to take this opportunity to provide you with information that may be helpful in preparing your patient for transport. In many instances, time is the factor in getting your patient to a facility that can provide the additional services they require. We listed a few suggestions to make the transition of the patient care from your facility to the flight team a more timely and efficient.
- Have the Consent to Treat and the Medical Necessity for Transport forms signed. These documents can be found in the Patient Transport Pack.
- Copy the Patient Chart and have X-Rays/CT’s available.
- Include a copy of the patient’s insurance information if available.
- Give all patient valuables and belongings to family members.
- Upon the flight team’s arrival, have someone available to give report on the patient’s current condition and interventions performed, provide any pertinent past medical history, and a list of medications that are currently, or that have been given.
- Have at least two large bore IV’s established.
- Management of the patient’s airway is of critical importance. Ensure that the most definitive airway management is performed prior to transport. The flight crew can assist you with this if necessary.
- If the patient is on IV medications, please make sure there is enough of the medication available to infuse during the transport.
- Trauma patients need to have their spinal motion restricted and have any extremity injuries splinted.
Thank you for the opportunity to assist you in the transport of your patients.
